About PEA

Palmitoylethanolamide (PEA) is a natural fatty acid amide your body can synthesize on its own, and it is also found in everyday foods like egg yolks, soybeans, and olive oil. What makes PEA special is how it helps your cells communicate, especially when it comes to calming inflammation, protecting nerve health, and easing pain[1]. Backed by scientific research, palmitoylethanolamide powder has shown real promise in helping people manage chronic pain by addressing its root causes, not just masking the symptoms.

Scientific Validation

Palmitoylethanolamide (PEA), an endogenous fatty acid amide, has been clinically demonstrated in multiple studies to help alleviate joint pain and enhance joint function.

PEA Shows Significant Relief for Knee Osteoarthritis

An 8-week randomized, double-blind clinical trial involving 111 participants demonstrated that daily supplementation with 300 mg or 600 mg of PEA significantly reduced symptoms in individuals with mild to moderate knee osteoarthritis [2].

Notable improvements were observed in:

  • Total WOMAC scores
  • Pain, stiffness, and physical function sub-scores

Compared to the placebo group, PEA delivered superior results, offering strong clinical support for its use in managing knee osteoarthritis.

PEA vs. Ibuprofen

A Smarter Choice for Chronic Pain Relief

A 2012 triple-blind clinical trial compared palmitoylethanolamide (PEA) and ibuprofen in 24 patients with temporomandibular joint osteoarthritis [3]. Over two weeks, one group received PEA (600 mg/day for 1 week, then 300 mg/day), while the other group took ibuprofen (1800 mg/day).

Results:

Pain scores dropped from 68.42 mm to 37.42 mm in the ibuprofen group, but fell more sharply in the PEA group—from 69.96 mm to just 7.69 mm—indicating 2.3 times greater pain relief.

PEA also led to a significant improvement in maximum mouth opening, supporting its promise as a more effective option for managing chronic pain.

Micronized PEA:
Overcoming the Absorption Barrier with Ease

PEA is highly lipophilic and nearly insoluble in water, limiting its absorption rate. Studies have shown that only 25% of doses were absorbed in animal models when given 100mg/kg of PEA. Most of PEA rapidly exited the bloodstream, making it difficult to maintain adequate levels in the body[4].

That is where micronized pea supplement comes in. By reducing PEA to ultra-fine particles, its surface area increases dramatically. Micronized PEA is more easily absorbed [5], making it a more effective and competitive supplement option.

Frequently Asked Questions About PEA (palmitoylethanolamide)

  • 01 What is a typical daily dosage for palmitoylethanolamide (PEA) supplements?
Finding the correct palmitoylethanolamide (PEA) dosage depends on your personal health goals and the severity of your symptoms. While everyone’s needs are different, here’s a general guideline to help you get started:
400 mg/day – Great for general wellness or managing mild discomfort.
600–1200 mg/day – Recommended for more persistent pain or inflammation, such as in joint or nerve conditions.
PEA is commonly available in 400 mg capsules, making dosing simple—take 1 to 3 capsules per day, depending on your needs.
As always, it’s best to consult your healthcare provider to determine the PEA dosage that’s right for you.
  • 02 What are the natural food sources of palmitoylethanolamide (PEA)?
Palmitoylethanolamide (PEA) is a compound your body naturally produces, and you can also find small amounts of it in foods like soy lecithin, egg yolks, and peanuts. But if you’re aiming for noticeable relief from pain or inflammation, those food sources likely aren’t enough. That’s why many people turn to PEA supplements—whether in capsule or powder form—for a more effective and consistent way to get their full benefits.
  • 03 Does palmitoylethanolamide (PEA) have any side effects?
For most people, palmitoylethanolamide (PEA) is very well tolerated. That said, a few individuals may experience mild side effects, such as nausea. To stay on the safe side, it’s best to follow the recommended dosage and consult with a healthcare professional, especially if you plan to take it regularly or for an extended period. And if you’re pregnant or breastfeeding, it’s a good idea to hold off, since there isn’t enough research on its safety in those situations yet.
